Boyo Division and Belo in particular where MIFACIG has it’s  headquarters, is a rural area where agriculture accounts for about 70% of the total source of income for communities. The topography is mainly mountainous with a lot of physical attractions including waterfalls, mountains, excavations and lakes. The kom people, the main tribe inhabiting the Division are very hospitable and true to their culture. The impact of MIFACIG’s work can be seen in the greenery of the landscapes which is a magnificent site to see.

Description of the Highlands

Between the 4º54´ and 6º36´ North and 9º18´ to 11º24´ East, the highlands gathered the West and the North-West province for an area of about 3,1 million  hectares. Belo is located near the Kilum-Ijim volcanic mountain.

Climate is of the type Cameroonian of altitude:

· Mean temperature quite low: 19ºC

· Heavy rains: 1500 to 2000 mm

· Rainy season from middle of March to middle of November

For those reasons, the vegetation is mountain forest zone area and soils are not very fertile.

The main cash crops cultivated in this area are: coffee, banana, maize, groundnut, rice, potatoes and legumes. Stockbreeding is very extensive.
